GreenStreet Cafe

address: 3468 Main Highway, The Grove

the guest list: Christine, Kat, Giselle, Angela, Jon

what we are: chocolate chip & banana pancakes, cream cheese & chive omelette, eggs benedict

what we thought: hit the spot

In the memory book of my life, GreenStreet is in the chapter filled with blurry nights and alcohol. I'd never really tried this place in the daylight, and much less sampled it's food.

I had always heard that brunch here was a must-try... so this Sunday, we tried it. We were a group of 5.5 (a small dog was involved) and we were seated in about 20 minutes after meeting at 12:30p - which was surprising because I heard the wait can be a pain.

Ordered the standard mimosas while waiting in the big red velvet couches along the sidewalk. Brunch was 1/2 order of banana chocolate pancakes - and it was more than enough. Go ahead and sing along to the Jack Johnson song - because that's how happy it made me.

Service was great - we were never rushed, and they didn't mind splitting the check 5 ways. It was a very leisurely afternoon, in the shade but still enjoying the beautiful weather.

Glad to add GreenStreet to a more grown-up chapter in my life. :)

The Palace, aka Drag Brunch

address: 10th & Ocean, South Beach

the guest list: Christine, Tracy, Angela, Jon, Angela's parents

what we ate: eggs benedict, pancakes, omelette, mojito pitcher

what we thought: fun!

Brunching on South Beach means drag queens. This is the kind of "very Miami" place that you have to visit at least once, and you have to add to your list of "places to take out-of-town visitors."

There are two seatings for "Brunchic" at The Palace - 11:30am & 2pm (kinda like the sessions at Hot Wheels!) Once the session ends, they kindly ask you to move on out of your table to make room for the next crowd - but you can still hang around. Make sure to get there early to get a good seat for the show. We arrived early on a very rainy Sunday and were not disappointed - because the show goes on, and the drag queens aren't afraid to shake their stuff in the rain... in fact, the water became a prop in their show!

The food was good and decently priced ($11 for 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, sausage and home fries) and the mojitos were strong & sweet. We ordered a pitcher of mojitos for $36 and when the waiter was only able to pour out 2-1/2 small cups, he went to the bar and got us some more without us even asking. (b/c we would've complained!) You can also order the unlimited mimosas brunch for $30.

So not only is the location and the food great, but Miss Champagne and Miss Tiffany come at no extra charge! The drag queens are hilarious, over the top, and very entertaining. They have no shame and will walk onto passing tour buses (as we witnessed), and will dance with unsuspecting tourists who find themselves in the middle of the show.

Can't write enough about this place - will definitely be returning.
